Perfect Phrases to Establish Administrative Deadlines
Too many managers figure the deadline to be ten minutes before a project is due, forgetting that it takes time for admins and office pros to put final touches on the work. Get managers used to the phrase “administrative deadline.” That term for blocking adequate time, before the final deadline, to allow for your role in project management makes it a concrete reality.
Remember to set an administrative deadline for [project].
When you meet with [project manager], please remind her to set an administrative deadline so the office staff has time to do our part.
My turnaround time for [project] is [time span]. That means in order for you to have it back by [date/time], your part will need to be ready by [date/time].
Sit down here a minute so I can show you why [process] takes so much time. From the outside it looks easy. Here’s the inside story. That will help you understand why we need administrative deadlines factored into our projects.
If the drop-dead deadline for this is [date], the administrative deadline needs to be [earlier date]. And it needs to be admin-ready by then.
